Frequently Asked Questions
These are the questions the band parents most often hear. If you have a question that is not specific to your child, please contact the Booster president at lhsimbpresident@gmail.com
We understand that you are proud of your kid and want to show off how great the band is doing! Please hold off on sharing this on social media until the end of the season. The LHS Marching Band is highly competitive and needs to keep the details of the show private until after ACCs.
Parents who do not follow these rules upset our students greatly, so much so that they will notify Ms. Jason immediately if they find any recording of our show online (they are very good at “digging”). The more competitive the band, the more seriously the students/Band Staff take unauthorized postings. Moreover, other bands should not be filming our group and posting. This is a big “no-no” in the activity. Please report anything you see/find directly to Ms. Jason and I’ll take it up with the director of the circuit.
PHOTOS
Do not share personal videos that include parts of the show, props, flags, etc. on social media until after the season has ended. You can post professional and personal photos of your student in uniform after the first competition, but make sure no elements of the show are visible.
VIDEOS
There are formal videos of each show that the students will use to critique themselves. These videos are password protected and are absolutely NOT to be shared on social media. They may be shared with your student and immediate household members only.
Do not share personal photos or videos that include parts of the show, theme, music, uniforms, props, flags, etc. on social media until after the season has ended. If you are unsure, it’s better to ask or just not post it!
Yes, unless your child is sick enough to miss school they are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances. If your child is sick please let Ms. Jason know ASAP. If your family has a pre-planned vacation that will require your student to miss a practice or rehearsal inform Ms. Jason BEFORE the start of band camp. We understand illness and emergencies happen, but these events are very important to the band and every single member needs to be there for the show to work.
It rains. Generally, it has no effect on schedule. In cases of extreme rain or lightening the practice or performance will be moved indoors. Plan for your student to attend all practices and performances on time, regardless of the weather. Ms. Jason will send out communication if this changes.
Football games – Games may be canceled or cut short due to weather, but the band will likely move indoors and turn the performance into a practice.
There are many opportunities for middle school students to participate in the LHS Marching Band. Some years the show will include actors (on the field, but not playing instruments or in the color guard). Please talk to Ms. Jason at the start of band camp if your child is interested.
Middle school students may also participate in fundraiser and community activities with the band.
CCPS policy states that middle school students may NOT ride on the bus to and from competitions with the high school students. Transportation will need to be provided by the parents for your middle school student to attend these events.

The school will have most instruments available for rent.
Ms. Jason has several instrumental music classes offered at LHS. The honors classes require an audition for enrollment. Find more information here.
